‘New Licensees Abound’
By James D. York, P.A.
The year 2015 saw 28,507 newly licensed real estate agents added to the Florida rosters—the highest number since the 2005 peak, when over 42,000 people took and passed the real estate exam. In contrast, 2011 saw fewer than 12,000 new sales associates receive licenses.
The Sunshine State is now home to over 220,000 real estate agents, making for a highly competitive market, since Florida also has a short inventory of available homes for sale right now. And according to Bob Hogue of the Bob Hogue School of Real Estate in St. Petersburg, inventories may well remain low for years to come, due to the considerable number of homeowners who are still underwater with their mortgages—and are therefore hesitant to sell.
In this environment, it’s even more important to research your options before choosing an agent for your own real estate transaction. Since newly-licensed agents are just building a new career and new business from the ground up, there is a two- to three-year learning curve to be fully on board with all the ins and outs of the profession. Our team has a combined 25 years of experience, as well as extensive specialized knowledge of the area.
